The Head of Federal Government Affairs will be responsible for advancing Abridge's priorities at the federal level, shaping the policy landscape to support the adoption of AI-powered clinical documentation and drive Abridge's growth in the healthcare sector. This role requires a deep understanding of federal health policy, a proven ability to manage complex advocacy efforts, and a passion for technology's role in improving healthcare.

What you'd actually do

  1. The Head of Federal Government Affairs, will serve as Abridge’s primary on-the-ground federal affairs lead in Washington, DC.
  2. Develop clear policy positions, advocacy strategies, and response plans for priority federal proposals.
  3. Manage and coordinate external lobbyists and policy consultants to advance legislative and regulatory objectives. Ensure compliance with lobbying disclosure requirements.
  4. Build and maintain relationships with Congressional offices, Federal agencies, and senior agency staff.
  5. Monitor, analyze, and brief leadership on relevant Federal legislation, regulatory activity, and emerging trends in healthcare and AI policy.

Skills

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in federal government affairs, ideally in healthcare, digital health, or technology policy.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal policymaking processes, including legislative and regulatory pathways.
  • Experience representing an organization at external policy events or public forums.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts (AI/ML, regulatory frameworks, clinical workflows) into accessible policy narratives.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or managing external lobbyists.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and credibility with policymakers, staff, and coalition partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise business judgement; interest in joining a small team that prioritizes autonomy and trust.

Nice to have

  • Experience with or within Federal agencies or key healthcare committees.
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, healthcare interoperability rules, or digital health regulation.
  • Prior in-house public policy experience (bonus points if at a growth-stage or healthcare technology company)
  • Experience supporting policy efforts related to federal procurement
