This role is for a Head of Insurance and Risk Management at OpenAI, responsible for establishing and leading the global insurance function. The position involves developing a risk financing strategy, protecting the company's balance sheet, and managing various insurance programs, including those related to emerging AI exposures. What you'd actually do

  1. Design, implement, and continuously improve a global insurance program covering key lines, including cyber, directors and officers (D&O), errors and omissions (E&O), property, general liability, international programs, and emerging AI-related exposures.
  2. Lead annual renewals, coverage reviews, market submissions, insurer negotiations, broker performance, and ongoing program optimization.
  3. Lead the evaluation of captive insurance structures, including feasibility analysis, domicile and governance considerations, capitalization, service-provider oversight, and performance monitoring.
  4. Establish a rigorous approach to identifying, quantifying, prioritizing, and mitigating insurable and enterprise risks.
  5. Partner with Finance and Treasury leadership on balance sheet protection, liquidity planning, capital efficiency, captive capitalization, and broader risk financing decisions.

Skills

Required

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in corporate insurance, enterprise risk management, treasury, brokerage, underwriting, or a closely related advisory field.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or leading sophisticated insurance programs for a large-scale technology, infrastructure, or multinational organization.
  • Deep expertise in cyber, D&O, E&O, property/casualty, and complex commercial insurance structures, including risk transfer and retention analysis.
  • Substantial experience establishing and managing captive insurance companies, including structuring, governance, capitalization, regulatory coordination, and ongoing program administration.
  • Proven ability to combine strategic judgment with hands-on execution, operational rigor, and scalable process development.
  • Excellent communication skills and a record of influencing cross-functional stakeholders and senior decision-makers.
  • Strong partnership orientation across finance, legal, security, technology, and operational teams.
  • Experience navigating emerging technology exposures, major cyber risks, large infrastructure footprints, or global program structures.
  • Experience with board reporting, enterprise risk governance, or alternative risk financing solutions beyond captive programs.
