Head of Strategic Finance

Asana Asana · Enterprise · San Francisco, CA · Finance

Head of Strategic Finance role at Asana, focusing on financial modeling, GTM investment optimization, and strategic decision support for product launches, pricing, and marketing. The role involves leading a team, owning the financial model, connecting revenue to systems, overseeing deal desk, sales compensation, and pricing structures, with a strong emphasis on SaaS business models and Product-Led Growth (PLG).

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the financial and operational backbone that connects strategy to execution
  2. Own and evolve the company’s end-to-end financial model (ARR, bookings, billings, revenue, and cash flow), ensuring alignment across GTM, Product, and FP&A. Establish this as the single source of truth for planning, forecasting, and investor communication.
  3. Connect revenue models with underlying systems (CRM, billing, product telemetry) to create a scalable, automated forecasting engine with clear inputs, controls, and auditability.
  4. Oversee the Deal Desk function to ensure pricing governance, margin discipline, and consistency in commercial terms. Partner with Sales Leadership to balance velocity with rigor on large/complex deals.
  5. Own sales compensation philosophy and team, plan design, and modeling. Ensure incentives align with company strategy (e.g., consumption, multi-product adoption, retention) and drive the right field behaviors.

Skills

Required

  • 3+ years leading a Strategic Finance or FP&A organization
  • Proven experience managing the financial complexity of B2B SaaS business models
  • Ability to architect "0-to-1" integrated financial models from scratch
  • Expert-level command of SaaS KPIs (LTV, CAC, Magic Number, Net Retention, Payback Period)
  • Cross-functional influence with an ability to align GTM leaders and Product leads with data-backed insights
  • A track record of hiring, mentoring, and retaining top talent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field

  • Ability to challenge the "why" behind these numbers
  • Experience acting as a strategic advisor to a CFO, CEO, or CRO
  • MBA from a top-tier institution or CFA/CPA designation is preferred but often secondary to proven "in-the-trenches" SaaS experience
