Hil Test Engineer

Caterpillar · Industrial · Wuxi, Jiangsu

The HIL Test Engineer is responsible for the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and validation of autonomous driving systems. This includes testing controllers, perception/planning/control links, vehicle interfaces, and backend systems on a HIL platform. The role is critical for ensuring the quality of autonomous driving systems before vehicle deployment, bridging algorithm development, hardware, safety, and real-world testing.

What you'd actually do

  1. Participate in the setup, configuration, and maintenance of the HIL test platform for autonomous driving systems (ECU / domain controller / vehicle-mounted computing platform).
  2. Connect and simulate vehicle I/O, CAN/LIN/Ethernet signals for closed-loop hardware-software testing.
  3. Support the development and continuous optimization of automated testing capabilities for the HIL platform.
  4. Conduct system-level testing of autonomous driving systems on the HIL platform, covering perception, decision-making, planning, control, and safety logic.
  5. Verify the functional performance and system stability of autonomous driving systems under normal and abnormal conditions.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Vehicle Engineering, Automation, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of experience in HIL/system testing.
  • Familiarity with automotive electronics or autonomous driving system architecture.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols such as CAN/Ethernet.
  • Good problem analysis and system-level thinking skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with autonomous truck, mining autonomous driving, or construction machinery projects.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink, dSPACE, NI, or similar platforms.
  • Scripting or automated testing capabilities.
