What you'd actually do

  1. Preparation of both unstained and routine hematoxylin and eosin stained slides from formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue blocks using: a microtome, water bath, automated stainer, automated coverslipper, tissue processors, and embedding centers
  2. Determine appropriate block orientation and alignment, knife angles, and settings to obtain representative sections
  3. Maintain specimen integrity through proper identification of samples, slides and folders
  4. Cut frozen sections using a cryostat, stain samples for pathologists to review
  5. Collaborate with in-house pathologists and pathology lab coordinators for slide quality review

Skills

Required

  • Histology experience
  • ASCP HT or HTL certification
  • College degree (Associates or Bachelor's)
  • Knowledge of CAP regulations
  • Familiarity with pathology laboratory SOPs and protocols
  • Comfort with laboratory safety and training
  • Problem solving skills in the laboratory
  • Good communication and organization skills
