This role focuses on Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) within a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The Associate HSE / Sr. Associate HSE will assist in developing and implementing HSE programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, supporting project teams, conducting audits, and investigating incidents. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related science or engineering field and several years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in pharmaceuticals or chemicals. Authorization to work in Germany is mandatory.

What you'd actually do

  1. Assist with the development of the HSE operational readiness plan for Lilly Alzey as a collaborative and energetic member of the HSE team
  2. Lead implementation of assigned HSE programs including lockout/tagout, PPE, hazard communication, ergonomic hazards, confined space entry, machine guarding, working at heights, powered industrial vehicles, and health and safety risk assessments
  3. Support the project team as a key HSE stakeholder providing input on health and safety-related design decisions, construction, and startup plans while ensuring compliance requirements are met
  4. Develop and roll out safety and health programs, procedures, tools, and HSE management systems including training, mentoring, and onboarding of new staff
  5. Build strong partnerships with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to manage change and ensure safe, compliant startup of new systems

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in pharmaceutical or chemical environments
  • Demonstrated experience applying Health and Safety regulations and developing HSE programs
  • Authorization to work in Germany

Nice to have

  • Desirable qualifications in the field of waste management, fire protection, explosion protection, machine safety, hazardous materials management, management systems (14001/45001/50001)
  • Excellent organization, time management, and analytical skills with a structured, systematic approach
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional environments
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and interfacing with HSE regulatory agencies
