Ford is seeking an Innovation Engineer to lead the Cockpit & Trim Global Innovation Council, focusing on technology discovery, production integration, and intellectual property. The role involves trend scouting, supplier coordination, competitive analysis, and working with marketing and program teams to implement new ideas into production vehicles. Responsibilities include facilitating Design Thinking sessions, developing training pathways, and identifying unique ideas for patent filing. The ideal candidate has a background in automotive interior parts, understands the product development process, and has a proven track record of delivering efficient and practical innovations.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the Cockpit, Trim, and Displays Global Innovation Council.
  2. Run Design Thinking sessions and clinics to solve interior challenges with a customer-centric focus.
  3. Research new technologies in automotive and outside industries (electronics, aerospace, etc.).
  4. Organize technology shows with current and new suppliers at all global sites.
  5. Identify unique ideas and write Innovation Disclosures for review with Attorneys.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Solid background in developing automotive interior parts, specifically in Cockpits, Trim, or Displays
  • Deep understanding of the Product Development (PD) process from initial concept to the assembly line
  • Experience leading Design Thinking sessions and using innovation frameworks to drive team output

Nice to have

  • Master’s Degree or Certification in Innovation Management
  • A good record of patent disclosures that have been successfully implemented in vehicles
