The role is for an Engineering Technician (Kfz-Mechatroniker für Prototypen) in Stuttgart, focusing on the design, buildout, testing, and maintenance of test rigs, prototype vehicles, and platforms across various vehicle types (cars, trucks, off-road, special vehicles). Responsibilities include hands-on building, guiding other technicians, troubleshooting systems, managing inventory and procurement, and collaborating to minimize downtime while prioritizing safety and performance. The role also involves supporting prototyping capabilities at other EMEA locations and customer sites.

What you'd actually do

  1. Den Aufbau unserer Prototypen am Standort Stuttgart verantworten
  2. Prototypen-Plattformen und Fahrzeuge konzipieren und aufbauen – sowohl PKW und LKW als auch Sonder- und Offroad-Fahrzeuge
  3. Weitere Techniker anleiten und koordinieren, aber auch selbst Hand anlegen – sei es beim Aufbau initialer Prototypen oder beim Aufbau einer Flotte baugleicher Testfahrzeuge anhand bestehender Aufbaupläne aus Stuttgart oder unseren anderen Standorten
  4. Fehler an Fahrzeugsystemen, Computerkomponenten und Sensoren beheben, Ursachenanalysen durchführen und Kalibrierungen vornehmen
  5. Ein Inventarsystem für alle Komponenten und Laborbedarf verwalten und so für Ordnung und Effizienz sorgen

Skills

Required

  • 2+ years of technical experience in mechanical, electrical, computer, automotive, or robotics industries
  • Proven ability to build prototypes, electrical wiring, and cable assemblies according to technical specifications
  • Strong ability to read schematics and datasheets for correct interpretation and implementation
  • Experience creating and maintaining detailed assembly instructions
  • Hands-on experience in a workshop, lab, or assembly environment with proven soldering skills and a high standard of quality
  • Familiarity with workshop equipment, 3D printers, and automotive diagnostic equipment
  • Enthusiasm for new technologies and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, and a structured approach to inventory system management

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of Python or other programming languages to assist with troubleshooting and automation
  • Understanding of ROS and Linux operating systems for software integration and testing activities
  • Knowledge of CNC, machining, metalworking, and welding for advanced manufacturing and repair tasks
  • Knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance as an additional problem-solving skill
  • Hands-on experience with AV components such as LiDAR, radar, and cameras for a comprehensive understanding of vehicle systems
  • Ability to design, draw, and prototype custom wiring harnesses
  • Knowledge of CAD software (preferably Solidworks) for navigating, designing, and modifying 3D models
