Lab Engineer (post Silicon Validation)

AMD AMD · Semiconductors · Bangalore, India · Engineering

The Lab Engineer (Post Silicon Validation) role at AMD is responsible for managing, maintaining, assembling, and supporting a large volume of compute systems used for platform bring-up, validation, and firmware development. This includes system assembly, firmware flashing, remote access enablement, boot failure triage, and thermal setup management, ensuring the reliable operation of lab systems. The role also involves meticulous record-keeping of hardware assets and coordinating with various teams for lab readiness and safety.

What you'd actually do

  1. Assemble workstation systems and perform initial bring‑up and power‑on validation.
  2. Flash and maintain BIOS/UEFI, BMC, CPLD, uCode, and platform firmware.
  3. Install, image, and re‑image operating systems as required.
  4. Enable and validate remote access (BMC, serial console, KVM, SSH, remote power).
  5. Diagnose and triage boot failures (no‑POST, BIOS hang, OS boot issues).

  • Proficiency with DMMs, Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, and BIOS flashing tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment and maintain a highly organized workspace.
  • Hands‑on experience with system assembly and hardware bring‑up.
  • Experience with firmware flashing and OS installation.
  • Familiarity with thermal/chiller setups and liquid‑cooling lab environments.
  • Ability to debug basic hardware, boot, and thermal issues.
  • Comfortable working with remote management tools and command‑line environments.
  • Ability to manage and support large system counts in a lab environment.

Nice to have

  • Soldering certification (e.g., IPC-A-610) is a significant plus.
