Northrop Grumman is seeking a Laboratory Technician 4 in Elkton, Maryland. This role involves performing various technical procedures, preparing solutions and reagents, making observations, performing simple calculations, collecting and preparing data, and conducting laboratory support functions. The technician will also perform technical and record-keeping duties in conformance with company and regulatory compliance policies, and conduct technical procedures in areas such as Production, R&D, Quality Control/Assurance, and EH&S.

What you'd actually do

  1. Preparation of various laboratory samples including qualitative/quantitative solutions
  2. Perform sampling of chemicals from the field for acceptance & surveillance testing
  3. Perform basic along with complex In-Process and Analytical testing in the Quality Control Laboratory to support both production and research departments with minimum oversight
  4. Prepare summarized technical reports and submit them to the area supervisor or lead
  5. Ability to operate, calibrate and troubleshoot analytical laboratory instrumentation

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma or an Associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. chemistry, physical, mechanical)
  • A combination of 6 or more years of additional education and/or related industry experience
  • Familiar and proficient with the following analytical testing techniques and instrumentation: Karl Fisher moisture determination, pH, Viscosity, Bomb Calorimeter, Specific Gravity, Total Solids, Acid/Base Titration (colorimetric/potentiometric) including Assay by Titration
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

Nice to have

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in chemistry or physical science
  • 8 or more years of additional education and/or related industry experience
  • Demonstrated advanced technical proficiency with laboratory equipment and techniques
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) specific to routine laboratory techniques
  • Perform on the job analytical training tasks for Laboratory Technicians 2/3
  • Continuous Improvement suggestions with an industry safety mindset
  • General understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (e.g. AS9100/ISO9001)
