Boeing Defense, Space and Security is seeking a Senior or Lead Laser/Optics/Mechanical Lab Technician to support the Air Force Research Lab at the Starfire Optical Range. The role involves planning, conducting, and documenting complex tests on products, systems, and components, designing and fabricating test systems, coordinating test requirements, performing system test preparations, analyzing data, and troubleshooting lab-related problems. The position also includes serving as a crew member for tests, being trained in optics, lasers, and telescope operation.

What you'd actually do

  1. Plans, conducts and documents complex tests on products, systems, components, materials, and manufacturing processes and technologies.
  2. Designs, fabricates, builds and analyzes test systems, materials, components, software and methodologies.
  3. Coordinates test requirements, determines test methods and capabilities.
  4. Conducts system test preparations by guiding system integration, fabrication, modification, setup, checkout and teardown.
  5. Performs test article configuration control.

Skills

Required

  • 6+ years of experience in engineering technician, construction or facilities maintenance disciplines
  • 6+ years of experience working with powered hand tools or equipment
  • Willing and able to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends

Nice to have

  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience operating complex computer-based analysis or control systems
  • Experience with high power lasers
  • Experience with optical alignment techniques
  • Experience with electronics/electrical systems
  • Experience with mechanical systems
