Boeing is seeking a Layout Specialist for their Machine Shop in Portland, Oregon. This role involves evaluating job assignments, acquiring specifications, performing precise layouts of parts using various measuring tools and digital data, analyzing CATIA information, verifying drawing standards, troubleshooting processes, designing shop aids, developing experimental processes, and collaborating with machine operators. The position requires experience with blueprints, precision measuring tools, geometric dimensioning and tolerance, engineering design tools like CATIA, and metrology devices. Experience with machined part layout and specific software like PC-DMIS is preferred. The role also involves adhering to safety and quality standards, and meeting export control compliance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Evaluate job assignments based on size and complexity, utilizing written and verbal tie-ins to establish job priorities.
  2. Acquire necessary drawings, Boeing (BAC) specifications, and documents using computing systems such as Bold/Web and CATIA.
  3. Determine the appropriate media for the layout process, including coordinate measuring machines (CMM), CNC, and digital data.
  4. Perform precise layouts of parts using measuring tools (e.g., height gauges, sine bars, micrometers) on surface tables to ensure accuracy.
  5. Analyze CATIA information, including digital data and overlays, to support various customer needs (e.g., quality assurance, engineering, production).

Skills

Required

  • 1 + years' experience utilizing and following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications
  • 1 + years' experience working with precision measuring tools
  • 1 + years' experience drawing, reading and interpreting geometric dimensioning and tolerance
  • Experience using engineering design tools such as CATIA, ENVOVIA, and/or PDM
  • Experience using computer based on-line drawing retrieval
  • Experience operating metrology devices such as CMM, PCMM, or laser tracker
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8 hour shift

Nice to have

  • Machined part layout experience
  • Experience using a Faro Arm or Romer Arm for the checking of parts
  • Experience using software knowledge, such as PC-DMIS, CATIA V5, Spatial Analyzer, Metrologic, Basic Scripting, or DMIS code
