Lead Engineer for Cybersecurity AI Activation and Engineering team at Target. This role involves serving as a technical anchor for engineering initiatives, creating and owning solutions, and ensuring they meet functional and non-functional needs. The engineer will work closely with cybersecurity teams to understand existing systems and contribute to new AI-powered capabilities, applying knowledge of emerging AI technologies within the cybersecurity domain. Responsibilities include evaluating new technologies, initiating research and proof-of-concept activities, providing thought leadership, and contributing to foundational AI/ML capabilities. The role requires experience in cybersecurity domains like security operations, incident response, or threat detection, and a strong background in software development (Python) and building scalable distributed systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. You create, own and are responsible for ensuring developed solutions and proof of concepts meet functional and non-functional needs.
  2. You will need to use your technology acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging AI technologies within the specialized cybersecurity domain.
  3. Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making and technical guidance to include viability within Target’s technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership.
  4. Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies.
  5. Contribute to foundational capabilities to enable AI or machine learning activities.

Skills

Required

  • Python
  • Experience with workflow and process automation
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas of cyber security: security operations, incident response, threat detection, application security, or penetration testing
  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation
  • Demonstrates broad and deep expertise in multiple computer languages and frameworks (e.g., open source).
  • Designs, develops, and approves end-to-end functionality of a product line, platform, or infrastructure
  • Demonstrates expertise in analysis and optimization of systems capacity, performance, and operational health
  • Understands and develops solutions to foster data lifecycle management
  • Maintains deep technical knowledge within areas of expertise
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
  • Experience in building highly scalable distributed systems

Nice to have

  • Experience with and passion for AI and ML solutions
  • Demonstrated history of rapid prototyping, development and iterative delivery with tight coordination with internal customers
  • Demonstrates strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target’s technology capabilities, and key competitors’ products and differentiating features
