Lead User Experience Designer (uxd Iii)

This role leads the end-to-end design of the insurance experience across Expedia Group brands, focusing on creating intelligent, personalized experiences by applying ML and AI-first thinking. The designer will collaborate with engineering and product partners to ship high-quality, resilient, and delightful shipped experiences, utilizing AI tools and agents to drive efficiency and innovation in their workflows. The role also involves contributing to and evolving design systems and ensuring accessibility and inclusive design principles.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead end-to-end product design for the insurance experience across Expedia Group brands, from clarifying problems and mapping journeys through claim resolution to delivering high-fidelity flows, UI, and prototypes ready for build.
  2. Design intelligent, personalized insurance experiences by applying ML- and AI-first thinking to journeys, states, and content, safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes for travelers and the business.
  3. Define and evolve visual and interaction systems (typography, layout, color, motion, components) that scale across brands, platforms, and breakpoints, creating reusable design patterns and systems.
  4. Grow our design system by contributing patterns, tokens, and documentation that improve quality, speed, and consistency for the broader team, ensuring solutions are fungible across multiple lines of business and product surfaces.
  5. Build expressive, high-fidelity prototypes that bring complex, future-state insurance experiences to life, including motion, transitions, and micro-interactions that clearly communicate behavior and edge cases.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience in UX design.
  • Several years of professional experience as a UX, Product, or Interaction Designer delivering user-centered digital products, with ownership of end-to-end design for features or workflows.
  • Proven ability to independently drive UX design within a defined product area or customer journey, collaborating with product and engineering partners to ship experiences to production.
  • Experience designing complex, multi-step customer journeys or multi-surface experiences (web, mobile web, native app) within a large-scale or multi-domain product ecosystem.
  • Track record of influencing product roadmaps through UX insights, using experimentation, metric analysis, and research to drive iterative improvements and measure the impact of design.
  • Strong skills in interaction design, information architecture, visual design, and prototyping using industry-standard design and prototyping tools, including creating detailed specifications that support implementation.
  • Experience evolving and contributing to design systems, including working with reusable components, patterns, and tokens to drive consistency and quality.
  • Proficiency with using AI tools and agents in day-to-day design workflows to drive efficiency and innovation across the end-to-end design process (from exploration and prototyping to content and design-to-code).

  • Experience planning and executing user research or usability evaluation activities, and applying research and product data to refine designs within a product team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with technical partners on constraints, edge cases, and system behaviors, including designing for data-rich interfaces, recommendations, or personalization at scale.
  • Experience designing AI-driven user experiences—such as intelligent suggestions, automation, or conversational interfaces—and safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled UX solutions in real-world products.
