Learning & Development Indirect Buyer

This role is for an Indirect Buyer specializing in the Global Learning & Development Category at Caterpillar. The buyer will develop and execute sourcing strategies, manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and drive value within the L&D portfolio. Responsibilities include leading strategic sourcing initiatives, drafting and negotiating procurement agreements (MSAs, SOWs, SLAs), partnering with stakeholders, monitoring spend, and supporting supplier development. The role requires a minimum of six years of professional experience in category management, sourcing, and business partnership, with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop and execute global sourcing and category strategies for Learning & Development services
  2. Manage supplier relationships, performance, risk, and commercial negotiations across the category portfolio
  3. Lead strategic sourcing initiatives, including supplier selection, contract negotiations, and spend optimization
  4. Draft, negotiate, and execute procurement agreements, including: - Master Services Agreements (MSAs) - Statements of Work (SOWs) - Service Level Agreements (SLAs) - Other procurement-related contracts
  5. Partner with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and deliver sourcing solutions that support organizational goals

Skills

Required

  • Experience developing and executing sourcing strategies and supplier management programs
  • Knowledge of procurement, category management, supplier negotiations, and contract administration
  • Ability to manage supplier performance, risk, and commercial relationships
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience building consensus and managing cross-functional relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Ability to leverage spend data and market insights to support business decisions
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience

  • Professional certifications in Purchasing, Supply Management, or related disciplines

  • Experience with: GEP SMART, Salesforce, Finance and accounting concepts
