This role provides clerical and administrative support for Staff Counsel Attorneys in an office, managing insurance defense and tort litigation/disputes work. Responsibilities include handling mail, managing confidential information, data entry for legal documents, managing calendars and files, and monitoring compliance with litigation management systems. Requires experience in a litigation setting or insurance defense, strong communication and organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

What you'd actually do

  1. Handle all incoming mail (high volume) – maintaining, sorting and distribution of mail
  2. Handle confidential information
  3. May handle calls and inquiries in an accurate and timely manner
  4. Ability to provide "knowledge transfer" to new employees on the team within this role
  5. Makes basic decision within established procedures under supervision

Skills

Required

  • 1-3+ years of experience in a litigation setting or prior insurance defense experience preferred
  • Mail handling experience
  • Clerical and administrative support experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, Internet, and other web-based applications
  • Ability to prioritize work and organize own time
  • Ability to complete professional, error free documents utilizing good grammar, spelling and format skills, including accurate preparation of legal pleadings, agreement letters, memoranda reports, outlines, schedules and client communications
  • Good communications skills including the ability to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with clients, customers and with fellow employees
