Lighting Supervisor

This role is for a Lighting Supervisor at Lucasfilm, focusing on designing and creating lighting setups for visual effects in film. It involves technical aspects like developing tools, writing shaders, and debugging complex problems, as well as creative and leadership responsibilities in managing a team of Technical Directors and ensuring high-quality lighting work that aligns with the director's vision. The role requires strong technical skills in lighting, rendering, compositing, and scripting (Python), along with experience in industry-standard software like Katana and a good aesthetic eye.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design and create complicated lighting setups and rigs
  2. Light complex/multiple creatures and elements
  3. Develop small scale, show specific tools
  4. Stay on top of pipeline iterations and improvements, make recommendations, and set priorities for show Pipeline TD
  5. Write procedural, volumetric shaders and surface shaders with proficiency

Skills

Required

  • 10+ years production experience or feature film experience with lighting work
  • Demo reel required
  • Linux and scripting ability in Python
  • Advanced lighting and rendering abilities
  • Proven ability to pick up new software AND proprietary pipelines
  • Katana knowledge and experience
  • Solid compositing ability

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or computer graphics OR other relevant field OR equivalent experience
  • Ability to work with competency, energy and enthusiasm within a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Exhibits excellent listening and communication skills, able to receive direction and criticism
  • Excellent presentation/communication skills in dailies/shot review by clearly and briefly outlining what has been accomplished by their crew

  • Demonstrates an excellent aesthetic eye, anticipating potential problems and using knowledge of how to use the tools to achieve the desired look
