Machine Perception (mp) Engineer – Level 3 or 4

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Dulles, VA +1 · Systems/Architecture/Test

Machine Perception (MP) Engineer for Northrop Grumman's Space Sector, focusing on designing, developing, integrating, and testing machine perception algorithms (CV, AI, ML) for real-time on-board processing on space vehicles and near-real-time processing on ground systems. The role involves rigorous testing, validation, tuning, collaboration with other engineering teams, analyzing mission data, and preparing technical documentation. Experience with imaging sensors and flight algorithms is required, with a preference for spacecraft navigation, robotics, and embedded processing.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design, develop, integrate, and test machine perception algorithms for real-time on-board processing on space vehicles and near-real-time processing within ground systems
  2. Conduct rigorous testing, validation, and tuning of machine perception algorithms in simulated and laboratory environments
  3. Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of machine perception systems with the overall space system
  4. Analyze data from heritage space missions to refine and optimize machine perception algorithms
  5. Design, develop, test, and verify flight algorithms for the MP subsystem and support flight software qualification testing
