This role supports vessel production, prototyping, manufacturing, and sustainment activities for autonomous vessels. The Machinist will produce precision components, tooling, fixtures, and production hardware using manual and CNC machining operations, working closely with engineering and production teams in a fast-paced shipyard environment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools including mills, lathes, drill presses, and saws
  2. Manufacture precision components, fixtures, tooling, and production hardware from engineering drawings and CAD models
  3. Support prototype development, production improvements, and rapid design iterations
  4. Perform machining operations on aluminum, stainless steel, composites, plastics, and other materials used in vessel construction
  5. Inspect completed components using precision measurement equipment to verify dimensional accuracy and quality requirements

Skills

Required

  • High school diploma, GED, technical school certification, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of machining experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, maritime, or industrial environments
  • Experience operating manual mills, lathes, and CNC equipment
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and technical documentation
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable working in manufacturing and shipyard environments

Nice to have

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software
  • Familiarity with aluminum vessel construction and marine systems
  • Experience supporting defense, robotics, aerospace, or autonomous systems programs
  • Welding, fabrication, or assembly experience
  • Technical certifications in machining or manufacturing technologies
