Machinist I - Night Shift

Caterpillar Caterpillar · Industrial · Sumter, SC

Operate and set up various machines including robotics, machine centers, lathes, and hardening units. Ensure calibration of precision measuring equipment, read and interpret blueprints, and relate blueprint dimensions to CNC machine programs. Perform quality checks, confirm part dimensional quality, and manage machine/robot setups, tooling, and fixture alignments. Requires knowledge of CNC operations, programming code for equipment, and troubleshooting. Basic math and trigonometry understanding is needed.

What you'd actually do

  1. Set-up and operate all of the following machines interconnected via robotics: GM Fanuc Robots, machine centers, lathes, induction hardening units, direct hardening units and grinders.
  2. Set-up, use and ensure calibration of precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers and lasers.
  3. Read and interpret blueprints to ensure product quality.
  4. Must be able to read and understand programming code for equipment and how to write recipes for robotic cells.
  5. Must be able to confirm the part dimensional quality by gauging the part, comparing it to the print, and recording the information as required.
