This role supports a quantum computing research lab by operating and maintaining CNC machining centers, 3D printers, and laser engravers to produce cryogenic hardware components. It involves collaboration with shop programmers and cross-functional teams, with opportunities for development in CAM programming and fixture creation. The position is entry-level and focuses on manufacturing support within a research setting.

What you'd actually do

  1. Operate support machinery for the manufacturing shop, including 3D printers and laser engravers, plus manual lathes, mills, and grinders.
  2. Primary output is from 3- and 5-axis CNC machining centers.
  3. Coordinate with external vendors to oversee remote services
  4. Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of equipment and lab environments
  5. Complete work orders, document maintenance results, and review and update technical drawings and related records

Skills

Required

  • Knowledge of CNC machinery operation
  • Associates degree or certification in Precision Manufacturing or equivalent
  • Experience in technical support work, engineering, or an operations environment
  • Experience with machine shop measuring inspection equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 49 pounds as needed, stand and walk for up to 8–10 hours per shift (with scheduled breaks), and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in a shop environment
  • Knowledge of Hardware-as-a-Service (HaaS) or Brother CNC machines
  • Knowledge of manual machining
