Mainframe Senior Infrastructure Engineer

This role is for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer focused on the enterprise mainframe z/OS environment at Bank of America. The engineer will provide hands-on technical leadership for the design, operation, reliability, and continuous improvement of mission-critical services. Responsibilities include leading complex technical designs, developing automation for implementation, translating business requirements into technical solutions, and ensuring compliance with architecture standards. The role requires extensive experience with IBM mainframe z/OS platforms and system software, supporting 24x7 production environments, and resolving high-impact production issues.

What you'd actually do

  1. Serves as a consultant on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes
  2. Develops software solutions to address manual and repeatable work or inefficient processes and contributes to the technology strategy for end-to-end engineering solutions and provides feedback to the architecture teams
  3. Translates business requirements into technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, and playbooks for deployment in compliance with architecture standards and policies
  4. Participates in various steering committees for technical and infrastructure service domains
  5. Leads the evaluation of reference models, blueprints and playbooks to ensure they are fit for purpose

Skills

Required

  • Extensive experience supporting and operating IBM mainframe z/OS platforms in a large‑scale, enterprise environment.
  • Strong hands‑on background in z/OS system software, including installation, availability, resiliency, performance, and operational stability.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own complex technical domains and resolve high‑impact production issues
  • Experience supporting 24x7 production environments, on‑call models, and incident response.
  • Ability to translate operational and business requirements into technical solutions, standards, and runbooks.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead through influence across teams.

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or serving in a technical‑lead capacity.
