Maintenance Technician

Caterpillar is seeking a multiskilled Maintenance Technician in Peterlee, United Kingdom, to perform planned and reactive maintenance on a variety of industrial equipment, including automated cutting, paint, and welding systems, as well as AGVs and cranes. The role involves diagnosing PLC issues, implementing program changes, and performing root cause analysis. Requires a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in mechanical or electrical disciplines, with experience in manufacturing maintenance and PLC troubleshooting.

What you'd actually do

  1. Completing planned preventative and reactive breakdown maintenance.
  2. Completing Dynamic Risk Assessments along with adhering to the company’s Health and Safety policy.
  3. Utilising the Computerised Maintenance Management System (SAP PM, Agility etc) to review previous breakdown data and record actions taken on breakdown recoveries
  4. Diagnosing PLC concerns and implementing program changes
  5. Breakdown root cause identification and countermeasure implementation

Skills

Required

  • A recognised apprenticeship in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline, an ONC, BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance or Engineering equivalent qualification
  • Experience with PLCs
  • Maintenance and fault-finding experience (Mechanical and Electrical) in a manufacturing environment
  • An interest in problem solving and passion to learn
  • Highly motivated with a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and be comfortable to work independently

Nice to have

  • NEBOSH/IOSH Qualification or experience and evidence of safety improvement activities
