Manager Aeronautical Engineering 2 - Material & Process (m&p) and Design

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · El Segundo, CA +1 · Engineering Mult-Func

Manager for Aeronautical Engineering focusing on Materials & Process and Design at Northrop Grumman. This role involves both functional management (20%) and technical leadership (80%) in analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their application processes for aeronautical designs. Responsibilities include material selection, processing strategies, cross-functional collaboration, technical reviews, and personnel management. Requires a STEM Bachelor's degree, significant engineering experience, knowledge of materials and processes, familiarity with aerospace design, and an active DoD Top Secret clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Coordinate new conceptual layouts, detailed engineering designs of structural composites, modifications, integration of advanced materials, and drawing reviews
  2. Develop and oversee material selection and processing strategies — Define material specifications, qualification plans, and manufacturing/processing routes (metallurgy, composites, coatings, additive/subtractive processes) to meet structural, weight, durability, and certification requirements for aeronautical designs.
  3. Drive cross functional implementation and continuous improvement — Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and test teams to integrate materials/process constraints into product development, resolve nonconformances, update process documentation (PFMEA, work instructions), and implement process improvements to reduce risk, cost, and lead time.
  4. Performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications, and manufacturing plans in a team environment with other engineering organizations
  5. Provide Functional Management to approximately 15 direct reports, including career guidance, performance management, staffing, interviewing/onboarding, disciplinary actions, and direct engagement.
