Manager, Engineering - Mobile Applications at Premera Blue Cross. What you'd actually do

  1. Hire, mentor, coach, and lead a team of mobile engineers delivering iOS and Android applications built with React Native, aligned to both short‑ and long‑term business goals.
  2. Own delivery and operational excellence for consumer‑facing and internal mobile applications, with accountability for reliability, performance, security, and user experience.
  3. Guide the team across the full mobile application lifecycle, from ideation and design through development, testing, release, and ongoing support.
  4. Mature Mobile DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, secure code scanning, and app store release automation.
  5. Champion modern mobile engineering practices such as component‑based architecture, automated testing, configuration as code, and consistent release processes to improve quality and time to market.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or 4 years of equivalent experience in information technology.
  • 6+ years of experience in application development or engineering, including prior team or program leadership experience.
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing high‑performing engineering teams.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience delivering mobile applications using React Native.
  • Production experience building and supporting iOS and Android applications, including app store publishing and lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript, mobile architecture patterns, and state management.
  • Experience integrating mobile applications with backend APIs and cloud-based services.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or Google Cloud acceptable).
  • Familiarity with mobile CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and release management.
  • Experience working in large-scale, regulated enterprise environments.
  • Experience partnering with security, architecture, and infrastructure teams.
  • Deep expertise in mobile application architecture, including React Native, performance optimization, and cross-platform tradeoffs, having successfully launched applications on both iOS and Android stores.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating applications in cloud and hybrid environments, leveraging public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google) and modern hosting models (PaaS, IaaS, containers).
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps practices, with experience implementing CI/CD and secure delivery pipelines.
  • Proven ability to use metrics and analytics to inform technical decisions and drive business outcomes.
  • Experience delivering customer‑centric products in an Agile environment, partnering closely with product, UX, solution architecture, and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in planning, prioritization, and execution, balancing workloads while delivering high‑quality results.
  • Proven capability to manage budgets, vendors, and partners effectively.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator, able to operate across teams and at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
