This role focuses on monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, identifying opportunities and threats, and developing strategies to advance company interests. It involves building relationships with officials, representing the company in coalitions, and pursuing political objectives. The role requires knowledge of public policy, political developments, and business processes, with strong analytical and communication skills.

What you'd actually do

  1. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and identify specific initiatives that present opportunities or threats to company interests.
  2. Alert Corporate and Business Unit management of pending legislative and regulatory initiatives, and develop strategies and action plans, in concert with business units, for affecting changes in policy and advance the Company's interests.
  3. Build and maintain relationships and interact with elected and appointed officials, legislative committees, and state agencies, to advocate and generate support for company interests.
  4. Represent the company and coordinate with trade associations, business coalitions, and other groups to develop support for company positions.
  5. Identify and implement opportunities for the company to pursue political objectives (i.e., political action committee, plant tours, etc.).

Skills

Required

  • Knowledge of legislative and regulatory decision-making processes and the impacts of proposed legislation and regulations on the private sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public policy and political developments affecting business, markets, and the economy.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, and to understand their interrelated impacts on business.
  • Understanding of business processes, organizations, and decision-making, and ability to communicate business concepts in the political arena.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and communications skills, including persuasive public speaking and writing abilities.

Nice to have

  • 4 or more years of experience managing government relations for a corporate office or trade association, including policy development and advocacy.
  • 4 or more years of experience working for a state or federal elected official, legislative committee, and/or regulatory office, with responsibility for managing issues and developing policy proposals.
  • 1 or more years of project management experience including strategic planning and execution, team engagement, coalition building, budgeting, and resource management.
  • Graduate degree in law, business, policy, or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, political science, or related field.
