Legal counsel role supporting Capital One Canada's business operations, focusing on employment, contract, and commercial agreements, while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including OSFI B10 Guidelines.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support business expansion and issues arising from an increasingly globalized workforce in a federally regulated Bank.
  2. Conduct legal research and translate legal advice into practical business terms.
  3. Advise on new and upcoming legislation and regulatory expectations.
  4. Develop legal guidance and other tools to support business partners to operate in complex legal spaces.
  5. Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements including third party agreements requiring familiarity with OSFI B10 Guidelines.

Skills

Required

  • law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited law school
  • license to practice in Ontario
  • 5+ years experience gained in private practice, government, or in-house
  • Knowledge of the business and regulatory environment in which Capital One (Canada Branch) operates
  • Strong legal research ability
  • Fluency translating legal advice into actionable guidance for business teams
  • Ability to manage a large volume of work, including complex legal issues with minimal supervision
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team player
  • comfort interacting with associates across various departments and job levels
