Manager, Network Engineering

Expedia Expedia · Hospitality · Prague, Czech Republic

This role is for a Manager of Network Engineering at Expedia Group, responsible for leading the design, implementation, and operation of network infrastructure. A key aspect of the role involves driving the adoption of AI/ML-enabled solutions for network monitoring, incident detection, capacity planning, and automation. The role also includes team leadership, mentoring, and ensuring alignment with architectural standards.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the design, implementation, and operation of resilient, scalable network infrastructure services that support Expedia Group’s global platforms and business-critical applications.
  2. Own low-level network system design, including routing, switching, load balancing, firewall and security controls, API design for network services, and data modeling for configuration and telemetry.
  3. Drive the adoption and safe integration of AI/ML‑enabled solutions into network monitoring, incident detection, capacity planning, and automation workflows to improve reliability and performance.
  4. Build and maintain automated network workflows and Infrastructure-as-Code patterns to standardize configurations, reduce manual changes, and enable fungible deployment across multiple environments and domains.
  5. Partner with cross-functional engineering, security, and operations teams to define network service requirements, influence technical direction, and ensure alignment with architectural standards and operational excellence goals.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in network engineering.
  • Experience leading network engineering initiatives or teams responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of production network services in large-scale or complex environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with core networking technologies and protocols (such as routing, switching, load balancing, VPN, DNS, firewalls, and network security controls), including ownership of one or more critical services or domains.
  • Proven ability to design and document network system architectures, including low-level designs, API interfaces for network services, and data models for configuration, monitoring, and telemetry.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products and infrastructure operations, including safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes.

Nice to have

  • Demonstrated success managing end-to-end delivery of network infrastructure projects from technical design through rollout, including change management, risk mitigation, and post-launch optimization at scale.
  • Experience architecting and operating highly available, secure, and performant network topologies across hybrid or multi-cloud environments, with strong focus on automation, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Proficiency with network automation frameworks, Infrastructure-as-Code, and programmable interfaces (such as APIs, scripting, or configuration data models) to standardize, validate, and deploy network changes reliably.
  • Strong track record using metrics, logs, and network telemetry to drive decisions on capacity planning, resiliency improvements, incident prevention, and continuous reliability enhancements.
  • Advanced experience with AI/ML‑assisted operations for networking (for example, anomaly detection, intelligent alerting, or automated remediation), including safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes and exploring emerging AI techniques to enhance network reliability and efficiency.
