Apple’s Commercial Legal Group is seeking a Manager/Senior Manager, Retail & Online, to lead a team of attorneys supporting Apple’s APAC direct channel business, including Apple’s physical brick-and-mortar Apple Retail Stores, Apple’s Online Stores, Retail Customer Care Centers, and its community of 88,000+ retail field team members.

In this role, you will work closely with senior legal and business leaders and colleagues across Apple to help Apple Retail achieve its business objectives. You will be a trusted partner to senior leaders by distilling complex, cross-functional inputs into streamlined narratives, priorities, and actionable guidance. You will constantly be shifting gears, day-to-day, as a trusted advisor across a variety of legal and business issues, and serve as a critical liaison to other Apple lines of business and legal teams as an expert in the inner workings of Apple’s Retail organization. You will manage a team of attorneys that oversee the legal issues relating to Apple’s APAC retail businesses. Your role will require you to think strategically about Apple’s go-to-market strategies and advise on a diverse range of legal, operational, and PR issues around consumer protection, sales practices, marketing, data privacy, consumer safety, accessibility, and more. You will be expected to proactively advocate for, influence, and implement strategies, partner cross-functionally across legal and Apple-wide teams, and manage outside counsel.
Responsibilities
• Lead the APAC legal team supporting Apple’s direct retail business, including business teams supporting platform partnership, operations, commercial programs, technology development, insights & analytics, services integration, marketing, merchandising, Genius Bar service and support, field/store support, retail security, internal communications, learning and development, and related expansion efforts.
• Develop and execute go-to-market initiatives globally for future products, sales and demo platforms, and internally-developed hardware and software products and solutions utilized by Retail’s employees and customers.
• Manage regulatory and PR risk via collaboration with cross-functional Apple-wide partners, including, Government Affairs, PR, Regulatory, Global Security, Marketing, Operations, and LGS (litigation, HR, product, IP, services, marketing, and privacy teams).
• Exercises sound judgment in escalating issues, anticipating leadership needs, simplifying complexity, and framing information to drive clarity and alignment.
• Mentor and develop team members spanning junior to senior levels.
Minimum Qualifications
Attorney with 15+ years of professional in-house or international law firm (or combined) legal experience with a high level of expertise in high-tech industry and/or premier retail industry. Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree Admission to a country with well-established common law or civil law system
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years in a leadership role managing other attorneys and/or other legal professionals Experience leading cross-border legal initiatives Significant product counseling experience Significant experience in complex legal issues in key APAC countries including China, Japan and Southeast Asia Experience leading complex commercial partnership negotiations Strategic thinker with the ability to effectively balance risk management and business initiatives in high-stakes, fast-paced environments Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to advise and build relationships with leaders, teammates, and cross-functional colleagues Insightful analytical skills and strategic business sense with the ability to resolve complex issues in thoughtful, collaborative, and effective ways. Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and manage a high volume of complex projects in a fast-paced dynamic environment Experience managing regulatory inquiries/investigations Significant experience deftly handling sensitive matters and interpersonal conflict, escalation, and resolution. Comfort managing outside counsel to ensure efficient use of funds Exemplary judgment and integrity
