Manager, Thermal Analysis

Manager for the Advanced Sensors Thermal Analysis Section at RTX, responsible for leading a team of thermal engineers, managing staffing, development, training, hiring, succession planning, performance appraisals, compensation planning, and promotions. The role also involves maintaining customer relationships, forecasting labor requirements, deploying staff, providing technical and project leadership, and reviewing thermal analysis BOEs for proposals. The candidate must be an expert technical advisor in thermal analysis, provide technical/functional oversight of hardware designs, drive thermal analysis best practices, and mentor staff. The position requires a STEM Bachelor's degree, experience with thermal analysis tools (ANSYS, STAR-CCM+, etc.), and the ability to obtain a US government security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. The Section Leader will have a technical role on at least one program in addition to performing the day-today leadership of a group of thermal engineers, with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement.
  2. Your duties will include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, weekly time-card approval, host section meetings, and ensuring adherence to company policies.
  3. You will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide subject matter expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities.
  4. You will assist with proposal preparation including estimating the scope of new engineering projects and completion of accurate estimates.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in thermal analysis with any of the following tools: ANSYS, STAR-CCM+, FloTHERM, PATRAN, Thermal Desktop/SINDA or equivalent
  • Experience in mechanical principles to solve classical thermal analysis solutions both inside and outside of finite element tools and an ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government issued security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Ability to work on-site in a closed and secured space

Nice to have

  • An advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of professional experience in the thermal analysis of complex systems that require collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Experience as a technical leader and/or leader of engineering teams
  • Ability and strong desire to facilitate career growth and knowledge transfer
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels and disciplines
  • Experience in electronics cooling and aerodynamic heating analyses
  • Experience in leading thermal testing: planning, organization, execution, data reduction and correlation

  • Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities
