Manufacturing Design Engineer

Meta Meta · Big Tech · Sunnyvale, CA

Meta's Reality Labs team is seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer (SME) to evaluate technologies and identify supply chain solutions for AR/VR products. This role involves collaborating with engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing teams to develop and qualify processes for optical and mechanical components, including CMF processes, lamination, and coating. The engineer will drive manufacturing process innovation, set CTQ criteria, perform statistical analysis, debug issues, and travel to vendor sites. While the core role is in manufacturing engineering, the posting mentions integrating AI tools for workflow optimization, adhering to ethical AI practices, and ongoing AI skill development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Drive manufacturing process innovation in optical and mechanical component solutions for Smart Glass, and AR/VR products
  2. Work with Hardware Engineering, Sourcing, Quality and Tech Ops Team to identify, audit and select the best suppliers’ partner (SPOR) to manufacture our products
  3. Responsible for CMF processes (PVD, CVD, sputtering, printing, coating, painting), cover window manufacturing, film/lens lamination, die cut, laser cutting, adhesion (i.e. Optical Crystal Adhesion), cover window coating process development (i.e. AR coating, IR ink development, optical coating)
  4. Process DFM, process bring up and qualifications
  5. Develop MP intent equipment, process and materials
