The Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) for iPhone is responsible for developing and optimizing key mechanical manufacturing processes, including equipment selection, automation, and R&D, across Apple's global supply chain. This role involves defining best-in-class processes, working with suppliers, and providing technical leadership during product development and ramp-up, with expertise required in areas like CNC machining, surface finishing, glass processing, assembly, or painting.

What you'd actually do

  1. Define best-in-class processes to meet all Apple design and operational requirements
  2. Develop and document processes including all parameters, consumables and secondary operation requirements to meet defined specifications
  3. Work with Global Supply Managers to define and establish supply chain requirements utilizing selected equipment and manufacturing suppliers
  4. Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and product production ramp, and drive engineering issues to resolution
  5. Use data to drive process decisions, basic data analysis, DOEs, SPC, etc.
