Manufacturing Engineer II for Caterpillar's Building Construction Products division in Athens, GA. This role focuses on maintaining, sustaining, and improving fabrication manufacturing processes for construction equipment structures, including routing definition, process and tooling design, robotic welding, CNC processes, root cause corrective action (RCCA), and continuous process optimization. The engineer will own fabrication manufacturing processes, design tooling, lead RCCA activities, and support New Product Introduction (NPI).

What you'd actually do

  1. Own and maintain fabrication manufacturing processes, routings, work instructions, and labor standards within ERP systems (SAP preferred).
  2. Define and maintain process flow, operation sequencing, and manufacturing methods from first operation through final fabrication.
  3. Design, release, and sustain production tooling, weld fixtures, jigs, and hard tooling supporting fabrication and robotic welding processes.
  4. Lead root cause corrective action (RCCA) activities for safety, quality, delivery, and cost issues using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone, A3).
  5. Lead process optimization efforts focused on throughput, weld quality, automation utilization, ergonomics, and cost reduction.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Manufacturing/Industrial Technology with 4 years of manufacturing engineering experience, 5 years of equivalent manufacturing engineering experience and an associate’s degree, or 10 years of equivalent manufacturing engineering experience with no degree.
