Manufacturing Test Engineer - Automation

Meta is seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer with a focus on automation to drive the development and deployment of hardware test systems with manufacturing partners. The role involves designing and deploying automation solutions, integrating robots and conveyor systems, programming PLCs and industrial robots, and ensuring system performance. The candidate will also integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and adhere to ethical AI practices.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design and deploy comprehensive automation solutions for test lines, integrating industrial robots with complex conveyor architectures
  2. Create detailed layouts and specify critical components, including motors, sensors, and structural supports
  3. Lead the design and optimization of PLC logic and motion control to maximize throughput and accommodate test flow/process requirements
  4. Conduct bottleneck analyses and cycle-time simulations to validate that the physical transport system meets or exceeds production targets
  5. Lead the onsite installation and mechanical commissioning phase, ensuring automation solution technical capability and operation performance

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of professional experience in industrial automation with a dedicated focus on material handling and conveyor integration
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or AutoCAD for the design of mechanical assemblies and factory floor footprints
  • Hands-on experience programming industrial robots (FANUC, ABB, or KUKA) for applications like palletizing, sorting, or assembly
  • Demonstrated ability to program PLCs and configure industrial communication networks
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical power transmission, including sizing motors and calculating torque requirements for conveyor loads
  • Expertise in high-speed and high precision automation systems for fragile or high-value components
  • Experience implementing tracking system to allow robots to interact with products on a moving belt
  • Experience in developing automation solution for test, including communication with tester and handling retest logics
  • In-depth knowledge of robotic/conveyor safety standards and codes
  • Background in performing structural load and stress analysis for custom-engineered automation system
  • Experience integrating vision systems for automated part identification and active alignment
