Marine Alignment Technician

This role supports vessel drivetrain alignment on autonomous ships, involving hands-on technical work with mechanical, electrical, and propulsion systems. Responsibilities include assisting with machinery alignment, equipment installation, inspections, testing, and root-cause investigations, requiring collaboration with production, engineering, and maritime operations teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Assist with machinery alignment, equipment mounting, foundation verification, and installation quality assessments
  2. Perform equipment inspections, startup activities, functional testing, and operational verification during vessel construction and commissioning
  3. Participate in vessel activation, dock trials, sea trials, customer demonstrations, and operational readiness events
  4. Coordinate with production, commissioning, engineering, and maritime operations teams to support vessel readiness and delivery schedules
  5. Assist with root-cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions to improve alignment reliability and manufacturability

Skills

Required

  • High school diploma, GED, technical school certification, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in shipbuilding, vessel maintenance, marine operations, industrial equipment installation, commissioning, manufacturing, or related technical fields
  • Experience working with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, propulsion, networking, or automation systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, installation procedures, and test documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting and hands-on problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work onboard vessels, in fabrication facilities, around heavy equipment, and in waterfront environments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams
  • Willingness to travel in support of vessel testing, demonstrations, customer support, and operational deployments

Nice to have

  • Marine propulsion, shaft alignment, rotating equipment, or machinery installation experience
  • Experience with laser alignment tools, surveying equipment, metrology systems, or precision measurement equipment
  • Experience supporting customer acceptance testing or operational readiness activities
  • Familiarity with aluminum vessel construction, modular assembly, or advanced manufacturing environments
