The Material and Contract Manager at Johnson & Johnson is responsible for implementing and overseeing the organization’s materials management and vendor agreements. This role involves executing supply-chain and contract lifecycle tasks, leading cost reduction and supplier risk mitigation efforts, facilitating cross-functional material initiatives, and optimizing processes. The position requires strong analytical and interpersonal skills, with experience in strategic sourcing, contract management, and supplier performance monitoring. The role also involves coaching junior colleagues and integrating company values into decision-making.

What you'd actually do

  1. Implement and execute the organization’s material & contract plan, from contract management through cost reduction strategy implementation.
  2. Develop provisional category strategies leveraging market intelligence, demand management, sustainability considerations, supplier diversity, and total cost of ownership metrics.
  3. Execute material strategies aimed at reducing cost, optimizing production processes, and mitigating supplier risks.
  4. Facilitate coordination of cross-functional material initiatives and supplier integration plans, ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
  5. Coordinate external vendor reviews to ensure suppliers meet contracted obligations and service-level commitments.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in strategic Material & Contract Management, or supplier management.
  • Demonstrated experience with contract management and supplier performance monitoring.
  • Strong analytical skills, including familiarity with analysis and cost-reduction methodologies.
  • Experience using market intelligence and demand management to inform category strategies.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring junior staff.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and supplier diversity programs and how to incorporate them into material & contract strategies.
  • Familiarity with procurement systems and sourcing tools (e.g., e-sourcing platforms, contract management systems).
  • Certifications such as CPSM, CIPS, or similar.
