Mechanical Engineer role at Northrop Grumman focused on supporting the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team. What you'd actually do

  1. performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis, reviewing analyses, and providing oversight to junior engineers developing analysis products.
  2. maintaining design drawings for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and their interfaces with facilities.
  3. Generate engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  4. Mentoring and cross-training junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent experience
  • Current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance
  • Experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with Ansys Icepak Classic
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling theory and application using industry standard structural analysis software
  • Experience using a 3D CAD Package
  • Experience reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards
  • Prior experience with engineering PLM systems
  • Understanding and application of industry engineering technical standards
  • Recent experience generating engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, technical reports, test procedures, program procedures, and CDRLS.
  • Experience in evaluating vendor documents to ensure specifications and datasheet meets requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-STD-1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000

  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience leading a small team, including task and schedule planning
  • Experience in system engineering knowledge areas
  • Experience using analytical software tools, to analyze and reduce data
  • Experience with mission critical and safety critical systems, components, etc.
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards
  • Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware
  • Hands-on mentality and a passion for fast-paced environments.
  • DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure
  • Prior experience with the design, test, and/or integration and deployment of mechanical and structural components, systems, or subsystems
