Mechanical Engineer at Northrop Grumman supporting the GMD Weapon System Hardware Engineering team. Responsibilities include performing finite element analysis, reviewing analyses, developing and maintaining design drawings, and mentoring junior engineers. Requires a Secret security clearance and experience with CAD and mechanical drawing standards.

What you'd actually do

  1. performing analyses IAW industry and military standards.
  2. Develop design drawings, maintaining drawings, evaluating hardware design efforts, scheduling, and planning required tasks.
  3. Leading small teams and writing reports to support milestone reviews.
  4. Accountability and active participation in team meetings and internal/external demos, and documenting progress on team dashboards is expected.
  5. Generate engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience using a 3D CAD Package such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX
  • Experience drafting and reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards
  • Prior experience with engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP system such as SAP.
  • Understanding and application of industry engineering technical standards; demonstrated structural design experience and impact assessment.
  • Recent experience generating engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, technical reports, test procedures, program procedures, and CDRLS.
  • Experience evaluating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and military parts for compliance to meet requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-STD-1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000

  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling theory and application using industry standard structural analysis software (ANSYS, GTStrudl, ABAQUS, STAAD, Femap, NX Simcenter, NASTRAN, Creo Simulation or SolidWorks Simulation)
  • DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure
  • Prior experience with the design, test, and/or integration and deployment of mechanical and structural components, systems, or subsystems
