Mechanical Engineer focused on Packaging Systems to design, prototype, and validate physical packaging for humanoid robots, accessories, batteries, and tooling. Responsibilities include CAD design, material selection, prototype building, packaging testing, and collaboration with manufacturing and logistics teams. Requires 7+ years of experience, CAD proficiency, and familiarity with simulation tools.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design packaging systems and shipping enclosures for the humanoid robot, accessories, batteries, and tooling using 3D CAD
  2. Translate industrial design goals into functional packaging structures that achieve premium aesthetic quality while meeting drop, vibration, compression, and environmental requirements.
  3. Architect multi-material packaging solutions (paperboard, corrugate, molded fiber, foams, plastics, textiles) optimized for strength, sustainability, and manufacturability.
  4. Build and iterate physical prototypes to evaluate assembly flow, part fit, ergonomics, and retail unboxing experience.
  5. Work with a manufacturer to execute packaging tests: drop testing, cyclic loading, clamp testing, shipping simulation, and climate/aging testing.

Skills

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, packaging engineering, or product design engineering
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Science, Industrial Design Engineering, or similar
  • Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD (complex part modeling + assemblies)
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (FEA, drop simulation, etc.) and packaging-specific analysis workflows
  • Comfortable working hands-on: building mockups, cutting prototypes, performing mechanical tests

Nice to have

  • Experience with high-volume packaging manufacturing: molded fiber, injection molding, thermoforming, corrugated converting, die-cutting, foam fabrication
  • Experience with premium consumer electronics packaging or complex electromechanical products
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers (CMs) and packaging vendors in Asia
  • CATIA V6 experience
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices (fiber optimization, recyclability, material LCA)
  • Motion/ergonomics experience related to lifting, handling, and pack-out design

What the JD emphasized

  • premium aesthetic quality
  • premium consumer electronics packaging
