Mechanical Engineer, Roadrunner

Anduril Anduril · Defense · Costa Mesa, CA · Air Dominance & Strike : Air Dominance & Strike Hardware : Roadrunner Mechanical

Mechanical Engineer role at a defense technology company focused on designing and integrating advanced hardware for missile platforms. Responsibilities include full development lifecycle ownership, from concept to flight test, with a strong emphasis on first principles physics, design reviews, analysis, testing, and production transition. Experience with CAD, manufacturing processes, and composite structures is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own designs from concept generation to real world use including avionics, mechanisms, thermal systems, fuel systems, and other general design tasks as required.
  2. Develop and integrate hardware on unmanned air vehicles.
  3. Use first principles physics as a basis for every decision.
  4. Lead design reviews, run analysis, visit vendors, define and execute hardware test plans.
  5. Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful projects into production.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design or engineering.
  • Experience designing mechanical parts (CAD - Siemens NX preferred).
  • Understanding of scalable manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, composites, 3D printing, injection molding, etc).
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes for composites, metal components, and plastics.
  • Background in first principles physics as a basis for every decision.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Broad experience working across multiple mechanical engineering domains (e.g., mechanisms, thermal systems, avionics, fuel systems).
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or engineering.
  • Ability to adapt designs from metal components to composites, with a basic understanding of material trade-offs.
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing techniques for composites and plastics.
  • Hands-on experience with composites and tool design, including familiarity with out-of-autoclave fabrication methods.
  • Experience in thermal & structural analysis.

What the JD emphasized

  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
