Mechanical Subject Matter Expert, Data Center Environmental Systems

Meta Meta · Big Tech · Eagle Mountain, UT

This role is for a Mechanical Subject Matter Expert in Data Center Environmental Systems at Meta. The primary focus is on the design, operation, and optimization of mechanical systems like cooling, water treatment, and HVAC. While the role mentions integrating AI tools for workflow optimization and adhering to ethical AI practices, the core responsibilities and required skills are centered around mechanical engineering and data center infrastructure, not AI/ML development. Therefore, it is not considered AI-related in terms of the core craft.

What you'd actually do

  1. Serve as the primary technical authority on data center mechanical systems, with a focus on environmental controls, water treatment, and cooling infrastructure including chillers, cooling towers, and fluid distribution systems
  2. Develop and maintain standards, specifications, and best practices for water and environmental mechanical systems across the global data center portfolio
  3. Conduct root cause analysis and failure mode investigations for mechanical and environmental system incidents, driving corrective and preventive action plans
  4. Evaluate and recommend improvements to water usage effectiveness metrics, including optimization of cooling tower chemistry, blowdown cycles, and recirculating water systems
  5. Collaborate with design and construction teams to review mechanical engineering drawings, specifications, and commissioning plans for new data center builds and retrofits
