Meta is seeking a Mechanical Subject Matter Expert for their Data Center Facility Operations team. This role involves technical expertise in mechanical systems, procedure-based maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and project oversight for equipment like chillers, cooling systems, generators, and fire suppression. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, building automation, and electrical distribution, with responsibilities including onsite technical support, procedure development, hands-on repair, quality assurance, root-cause analysis, and vendor management.

What you'd actually do

  1. Serve as an onsite technical resource of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment, with an emphasis on practical field operation
  2. Contribute to the mechanical safety program for the site
  3. Plan, resource, author, or approve work procedures to cover mechanical troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities, with an emphasis on assessing and mitigating personnel and critical systems and operational risk
  4. Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance of mechanical equipment
  5. Oversee mechanical system configurations and component upgrades to ensure system integrity is maintained and that all modifications to existing systems comply with best practices, including change control processes

Skills

Required

  • 6+ years relevant mechanical industry experience or mechanical trade level experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or trade certification in related field plus 2+ years relevant mechanical industry experience will be considered in lieu of 6+ years mechanical industry experience
  • Working knowledge of critical facility operations with experience or understanding of procedure-based work
  • Working knowledge of psychrometric charts and refrigeration cycles
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of mechanical equipment and systems, with expertise in mechanical equipment design, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and/or construction
  • Working knowledge of electrical, control and fire/life safety systems
  • Experience in interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
  • Experience in critical environments
  • Significant experience in comprehending mechanical plans, specifications, and equipment shop drawings
  • Experience in a data center industry
  • Equipment field service engineering or representative experience
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards
  • Trade certification or state license in Mechanical Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
