Mechanical Systems Engineer – Power Conversion & Distribution Systems

Caterpillar Caterpillar · Industrial · Bangalore, Karnataka

Mechanical Systems Engineer responsible for the design, development, and integration of mechanical systems for Power Conversion & Distribution systems in electrified platforms. Focuses on system architecture, enclosure design, thermal-mechanical integration, and component design with an emphasis on compact, lightweight, and high power-density solutions for demanding industrial and automotive environments.

What you'd actually do

  1. Define mechanical system architecture for power conversion and distribution systems, translating requirements into subsystem and component-level designs
  2. Lead design and development of enclosures, housings, and structural components for power electronic systems (inverters, converters, Battery Power distribution units)
  3. Drive compact and lightweight design strategies, optimizing packaging for space, weight, thermal performance, and structural integrity
  4. Own mechanical design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), ensuring cost-effective and scalable production
  5. Perform material selection (metals, polymers, composites) considering thermal, mechanical, environmental, and cost constraints
