We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician B to join our dynamic team in El Segundo, California.
This position's internal job code is Spacecraft Mechanical Technician B. Our team is currently hiring for labor grade 15.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, test, checkout and inspect mechanical spacecraft assemblies by interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications, and written assembly, integration, and test procedures
- Visually inspect mechanical assemblies to drawings, engineering specifications, and written assembly, integration, and test procedures
- Operate a wide range of machine tools. Included but not limited to, drill press, grinders, chop saw, power, and hand tools
- Mix and apply epoxy materials
- Prepare and bond components to composite structures
- Support other mechanical areas defined by Millennium Space Systems Leadership as business needs require
- Perform incidental related duties as assigned or required
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Shift:
This position is primarily 2nd shift; however, there may be additional shift requirements to support program objectives. Candidates must be able to work any shift assigned.
**Union: **
- This is an hourly union-represented position governed by the Cabinet Makers, Millmen and Industrial Carpenters Union (CMM&IC Local 721).
- New hires and employees transferring from non-union roles may be required to attend or complete training within their 90-day probationary period. Continued employment is contingent on successfully completing the probationary period.
Security Clearance:
**This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. **(An Interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post Start is required.)
**Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): **
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience reading basic blueprints
- Experience following written and verbal work instructions
- Experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment
- Experience using basic Microsoft Office and office computing systems
- Experience with mechanical trouble shooting, disassembly and repair
- Capable of lifting 20lbs or more on a frequent basis
- Ability to stand and move (reach, bend, or stoop) to handle products for extended periods of time with only short breaks
**Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): **
- More than 1 year of experience interpreting manufacturing blueprints
- More than 1 year of experience mixing epoxy materials
- More than 1 year of experience with the following types of hand tools (calipers, digital optical micrometers, depth gages, thread gages, go no go gages, etc.)
- More than 1 year of experience with aircraft tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, micro bonder, vacuum gauges and heat blankets
