The Medical & Clinical Affairs Manager provides strategic, operational, and governance leadership for Medical Affairs and Clinical Research within the Johnson & Johnson MedTech (JJM) Surgery portfolio in Australia and New Zealand. This role ensures medical and clinical compliance, supports surveillance and incident reporting, and facilitates the safe adoption of JJM Surgery technologies through clinician education and scientific exchange. It holds medical accountability for clinical research, directs medical strategy, and engages with Key Opinion Leaders to generate and disseminate evidence, always prioritizing patient safety and improved clinical outcomes.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead Medical Affairs governance for the ANZ Surgery portfolio, ensuring compliance with internal policies, local regulations, and applicable industry codes.
  2. Provide medical oversight for Surgery-related Medical Incident Reports (MIRs), safety signal assessment, and escalation, partnering with Regulatory, Quality, Safety, and Product Vigilance teams.
  3. Develop and represent the ANZ medical strategy for Surgery, contributing medical and scientific input to strategic planning, product launches, and lifecycle management.
  4. Support clinician education, scientific exchange, and the development of compliant medical and educational materials in partnership with cross-functional teams.
  5. Support pre-market and post-market surveillance, evidence generation, and medical interpretation of clinical data to inform internal and external communications within compliance boundaries.

Skills

Required

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, or related discipline
  • Strong understanding of medical governance, post-market surveillance, and patient safety obligations
  • Demonstrated experience in Medical Affairs within medical devices or regulated healthcare environments
  • Broad healthcare system knowledge and commitment to improving patient outcomes

Nice to have

  • Medical degree (MBBS, MD) or PhD
  • Clinical research or evidence generation experience
  • MBA or business qualification
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Regulatory, Health Economics and Quality teams
  • Experience in Surgery or surgical device environments
