Metrology Test & Evaluation Engineer (associate or Mid-level)

Boeing Boeing · Aerospace · Seattle, WA

Boeing is seeking a Metrology Test & Evaluation Engineer to join their Metrology & Test Equipment Services (MATES) organization. The role involves supporting engineering functions and calibration labs, collaborating with factory teams and quality organizations to ensure Measurement & Test Equipment (M&TE) is capable, traceable, and available. Responsibilities include serving as an engineering focal for calibration activities, designing and evaluating calibration systems, applying analytical tools for process capability, analyzing measurement data, developing procedures, driving continuous improvement, and preparing technical reports. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or science field and 2+ years of hands-on engineering experience with measurement or test equipment in hardware environments.

What you'd actually do

  1. Serve as the engineering focal for calibration-related activities across production, labs, quality, and engineering
  2. Design and evaluate calibration system hardware, software, and workflows to meet program test and production requirements
  3. Apply analytical tools and uncertainty methods to verify calibration process capability and alignment with enterprise standards
  4. Analyze measurement data—including off-nominal or out-of-tolerance conditions—and support root-cause investigations
  5. Develop and improve calibration procedures, specifications, and documentation to ensure consistency and compliance

Skills

Required

  • US Person status
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent

  • Proficiency with Microsoft and project management applications

Nice to have

  • 3 + years of direct experience in metrology or calibration/certification (ISO 17025, ANSI Z540, gage R&R, uncertainty budgets, interval analyses)
  • Experience with multiple parameter families (torque, pressure, force, mass, thermodynamics, electrical, wire, dimensional)
  • Ability to read engineering drawings/specifications and translate them into practical measurement set-ups
  • Demonstrated success leading process-improvement or project-management activities (Lean, Six Sigma, RCCA, Agile)
  • Experience presenting calibration concepts, results, and recommendations to non-metrology stakeholders
  • Experience with measurement and test or instrumentation tools such as optical comparators, CMMs, pressure stands, temperature/humidity systems, torque, wire crimpers, electrical test benches, data-acquisition rigs, and functional test systems
