Microsoft Fabric Solution Specialist

Caterpillar Caterpillar · Industrial · East Peoria, IL +2

This role is a Microsoft Fabric Solution Specialist within Caterpillar’s Intelligent Automation and Business Intelligence Center of Excellence. The specialist will advise business units on Microsoft Fabric adoption, build reusable patterns, coach teams, and work on complex builds, migrations, and proofs of concept. Responsibilities include serving as an advisor, building decision frameworks, driving enablement, coaching teams, partnering on complex use cases, developing reusable assets, providing SME guidance on Fabric components, and creating monitoring approaches. The role requires strong knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure cloud services, and data modeling, with an emphasis on delivering measurable business value.

What you'd actually do

  1. Serve as the go-to advisor for Fabric adoption — run intake consultations with business units, assess use-case fit, and recommend the right approach (including steering teams away from Fabric when another platform is the better choice).
  2. Build decision frameworks and reference guidance: when to use Fabric vs. existing platforms, migration-readiness criteria, and cost/capacity trade-offs.
  3. Drive enablement through workshops, office hours, and an internal Fabric community of practice; define adoption maturity models and COE success metrics.
  4. Partner on complex/strategic use cases — performance tuning, troubleshooting, and proof-of-concept development — alongside the teams that own them.
  5. Develop and maintain reusable assets: templates, reference architectures, semantic-model patterns, data pipelines, and governance documentation for enterprise-wide modernization.
