Northrop Grumman is seeking a Milling Machinist 3 to operate and set up manual or universal milling machines to perform various machining operations. The role involves interpreting blueprints, using precision measuring instruments, and fabricating parts to exacting tolerances using HAAS 3 and 5 axis mill machines. Requires experience in CNC operation, GD&T, and CAM software, with a preference for experience in prototype fabrication and CAD modeling. A Secret level clearance is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Sets up and operates manual or universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines to perform machining operations such as compound angles and contours, boring compound angular holes, doing helical and spiral milling; serrating; and gear, spline, and keyway cutting to exacting tolerances.
  2. Selects, mounts, and aligns various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling, plans sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup, determines, sets, and adjusts speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
  3. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
  4. Uses a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  5. Fabrication of parts, assemblies, installations, and repair of production metal products using HAAS 3 and 5 axis mill machines

Skills

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years related machining experience in an aerospace, military, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in programing and operating a 3 axis and/or 5 axis CNC machine (with simultaneous movements)
  • Experience in GD&T in design and manufacturing process
  • Experience in Mastercam or related Cam software
  • Ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 35 pounds, working overhead or at heights, and accessing small, confined spaces
  • Ability to pass a new hire Physical.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret level clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable period, as defined by the company to meet its business needs. U.S. Citizenship required for clearance.

Nice to have

  • Ability to design and create customized fixtures and tooling for jobs
  • Experience working in an Aviation Rapid Prototype and/or Experimental Fabrication Environment
  • Experience using NX or CAD modeling programs
  • Experience working from Composites, Al, Ti, and Inconel
  • Active U.S. Government Secret level clearance last investigated within 5 1/2 years.
