Boeing Boeing · Aerospace · Colorado Springs, CO

Boeing's Millennium Space Systems is seeking a Mission Operations Engineer to be the lead technical authority for on-orbit spacecraft. This role involves the entire mission lifecycle, from proposal to decommissioning, including defining operational concepts, developing procedures, and innovating advanced operation methods. Responsibilities include supporting all mission lifecycle aspects, defining ground and mission operations requirements, designing the ground segment, implementing fault and autonomy systems, developing automation methods, and conducting various tests and rehearsals. The role also involves leading teams during launch and early orbit activities, performing duties of lead technical authority during mission operations, and providing oversight of nominal operations.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support every aspect of the mission lifecycle, from proposal/mission modeling, design, integration and test, space vehicle shipment, launch and on-orbit operations, to decommissioning
  2. Define ground and mission operations requirements, and flow mission requirements back to the space vehicle
  3. Design the ground segment, including command and control, mission planning, mission data processing, and the associated infrastructure to support all activities
  4. Implement and test space vehicle fault and autonomy, including fault detection and response, autonomous space vehicle behavior, and on-board command and control
  5. Develop and implement methods of operational automation, to reduce day-to-day operator responsibilities
