Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer (kinematic) - Level 2 or 3

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Colorado Springs, CO +1 · Systems/Architecture/Test

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer (Kinematic) for their Space Systems division in Colorado Springs, CO. The role involves developing high-fidelity threat modeling products, specifically kinematic missile models, for the Missile Defense Agency. Responsibilities include applying engineering and mathematical algorithms to simulate missile and space launch vehicle trajectories, understanding aerodynamic forces and GNC systems, and authoring Verification and Validation documents. The position requires a Secret security clearance and a Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with relevant experience. Experience with programming languages like MATLAB or Python and familiarity with ballistic missile flight characteristics are necessary.

What you'd actually do

  1. Responsible for developing ballistic and advanced/hypersonic kinematic threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/frameworks/media.
  2. Will apply standard engineering and mathematical algorithms to ensure the accurate portrayal of expected missile or space launch vehicle behavioral characteristics during all phases of powered and un-powered flight.
  3. Will research, interpret, verify parameters required to build, replicate, and propagate missile or space launch vehicle trajectories including, but not limited to, staging debris, countermeasures, and payload traits.
  4. Will author highly technical Verification and Validation (V&V) documents.
